Farm Fresh LA takes an innovative approach to healthy retail work by combining a traditional nutrition incentive model with food distribution. We currently partner with three small grocers and corner stores and one aggregation partner to bring regionally grown produce to communities where it’s most needed.

The program leverages LAFPC’s relationships with multigenerational corner store owners of color, fostered through our internationally recognized program, the Healthy Neighborhood Market Network. The incentivized locally-grown produce bundles have a retail value of about $20, but CalFresh shoppers become eligible to purchase these bundles at no cost when they spend at least $5 of CalFresh benefits, with the incentive costs being covered by our generous sponsors. By partnering with LAFPC’s Farm Fresh LA, stores are able to source locally grown produce and offer it directly within communities most affected by food apartheid. The program began in 2021, and 33,000 pounds of fresh produce have been distributed through this program to date.

Our program enables local corner stores to develop direct relationships with local produce distributors and farmers.

There are many kinds of nutrition incentive programs, most of which focus entirely on the consumer. What makes Farm Fresh LA unique is how it focuses on the local food supply chain and stimulates the local economy by providing revenue to local farmers, aggregators, and small businesses.

Our Aggregator

Produce for the Farm Fresh LA bundles is procured & aggregated by our partners at With Love Market & Cafe, a South LA small business. Every week, their staff and volunteers receive the produce from a variety of local farmers, divide it into 5 pound bags, and deliver to our store partners throughout Los Angeles.

We reside, work, and cultivate food
on unceded Indigenous homelands.

We acknowledge and honor the descendants of the Tongva, Kizh, and Gabrieleño peoples as the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar (the Los Angeles Basin and the Southern Channel Islands). We pay our respects to the Honuukvetam (Ancestors), ‘Ahiihirom (Elders) and ‘Eyoohiinkem (our relatives/relations) past, present and emerging.

As part of a greater foodshed, we would also like to pay respect to and honor the Chumash, Tataviam, Serrano, Kitanemuk, ʔíviĨuqaletem, Acjachemen, Payómkawichum, and any other tribal group possibly not mentioned. As a Food Policy Council for Los Angeles we recognize this land acknowledgment is limited and engagement is an ongoing process of learning and accountability.
