CCOF invites you to join us in exploring “Farming the Urban Edge,” the theme of our 2014 annual meeting, bus tour, and reception on March 5, 2014. These events will take place in conjunction with Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California and provide a unique opportunity to see how urban agricultural production – and organic in particular – is evolving to meet demands of the one of the world’s largest urban marketplaces.
The morning program will include keynote speaker Rachel Surls, Ph.D., LA Cooperative Extension agent with the University of California and author of the forthcoming book tentatively titled From Cows to Concrete. Dr. Surls will speak about the history of agriculture in the greater Los Angeles area.
We will then tour the agricultural features of Orange County’s Great Park (former home of the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station), which now houses a backyard garden demonstration site, a veteran’s farm re-training program, and 100 acres of organic fruit and vegetable production managed by former California Secretary of Agriculture AG Kawamura’s Orange County Produce. The bus tour will also include lunch at 123 Farm at Highland Springs Resort and a presentation from Dr. Raju Pandey, who is currently researching the Asian Citrus Psyllid at Y&V Farm, a CCOF-certified wholesale fruit producer just minutes from downtown Riverside.
Upon return to Anaheim, participants will attend a reception featuring organic food and drink – “The Organic Palate: Farm to City.”

6:30 – 8:30 p.m. “The Organic Palate: Farm to City” Organic Beer and Wine Tasting*
We are proud to announce our accomplished celebrity chef, Frank Caputo, executive chef of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Frank will be hosting a chef’s demonstration during “The Organic Palate: Farm to City” Organic Beer and Wine Tasting using all certified organic products grown in the Cancer Treatment Centers of America’s own certified organic garden.
The reception will include samples from CCOF certified organic wineries and breweries and will feature organic appetizers matched to complement the beer and wine. This will be a great opportunity to taste your way through the scrumptious bounty of the organic industry.
