Matthew Sharp is the Senior Policy Director of LA2050 at the Goldhirsh Foundation. Prior to that, he served as the Senior Advocate for California Food Policy Advocates’ Los Angeles Office. California Food Policy Advocates is a statewide nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the health and well being of low-income Californians by increasing their access to nutritious and affordable food. Since 1997, Matthew has led CFPA’s advocacy throughout Los Angeles County to expand access to and increase participation and quality in the federal nutrition safety net, such as Food Stamps, Child Care Food Program and School Breakfast. By providing technical assistance on program policies and sponsoring legislation to meet community needs, CFPA mobilizes partners across California to reduce hunger and obesity. Matt has provided testimony to two congressional committee hearings, twelve state assembly and senate committee hearings and dozens of city council, school board and county board hearings. He provides regular commentary in the Los Angeles Times and has provided analysis on ABC News, CNN and the Fox News Channel. Prior to joining California Food Policy Advocates, Matt coordinated a fresh fruit and vegetable project for Marion-Polk Food Share, a food bank in Oregon.
