Somewhere in LA, an urban farmer transforms a vacant lot into a community garden. A waste hauler partners with a food recovery organization to distribute food to where it could be of most use, making sure edible food does not get landfilled. An LAUSD student enjoys a meal that is sourced from ethical, local, and sustainable farmers. And a single mom buys fruits and veggies at her local farmers’ market using CalFresh/EBT assistance.
While each of these moments is distinct, they all share an origin story. They are the results of participatory policy making through the Los Angeles Food Policy Council.
Over the last seven years, our team at the LA Food Policy Council has dedicated ourselves to working with the Good Food Movement to put forward policies that support a future of food that is regenerative and just.
If you believe in this mission, now is your chance to support the LA Food Policy Council.
We are so excited to let you know that TODAY kicks off our fundraiser with the GIVE Los Angeles Challenge, a friendly fundraising competition where Los Angeles nonprofits compete to raise money for their cause.
We’re looking to our supporters to help us meet our fundraising goal of $10,000. Every amount donated makes a difference, so please check out our fundraising page here and give what you can.
Over the next few weeks, we will be reaching out to tell the story of our impact in hopes that you or someone you know will consider contributing. You’ll hear from people in our network about the connections they have made, lessons they have learned or how food policy has impacted them personally. Interested in sharing your story? We’d love to hear from you! Tag us on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook and use the hashtag #goodfoodimpact. At the end of the GIVE LA Challenge, we’ll give away some swag to a few lucky winners who helped us spread the word.
