LA Street Vending: A Pathway to Food Justice
A Deeper Look at Participatory Food Policy Making
The LA Food Policy Council joins East LA Community Corporation and the Los Angeles Street Vending Campaign for our first Network Meeting of 2015 on community leadership and participatory policymaking in action through the LA Street Vendor Campaign.
Los Angeles is often celebrated for its vibrant street food culture, and yet vending food on city sidewalks is illegal and many vendors face harsh repercussions. The City of LA is considering a permit system for sidewalk vending, along with special incentives for healthy food carts. Our February Network event will highlight how vendors themselves are advocating and shaping the proposed policy through the LA Street Vendor Campaign. Coalition partners will share valuable lessons from the campaign on community-based participatory policy development, alliance building and how street food fits into the larger movement for food justice in Los Angeles.

Call for Volunteers!
We are seeking awesome volunteers for our event on 2/19! This is a terrific opportunity to participate in a LAFPC Network event and meet others who care about food system issues. Help is needed with registration, parking, wayfinding, note taking, collecting question cards, setting up the networking session, and event break-down. The full shift is from 4:30 – 9:30 pm, though we have a little flexibility to work with your schedule if needed. For more information and to sign up, contact Haan-Fawn Chau, hfchau [at] goodfoodla [dot] org.
