The purchasing of Good Food is a vital component to providing the nutritional needs of all children in the LAUSD. The Governing Board of the Los Angeles Unified School District commits to the Good Food Purchasing Pledge to improve our region’s food system through the adoption and implementation of the Los Angeles Food Policy Council (LAFPC) Good Food Purchasing Guidelines.
The Good Food Purchasing Pledge, developed by the Los Angeles Food Policy Council, is a commitment from food service institutions to improve our region’s food systemthrough the adoption and implementation of Good Food Purchasing Guidelines. The Guidelines include: environmentally sustainable food production, local sourcing, fair labor practices, animal welfare, and nutrition. The system is the first in the nation to take into account labor practices as part of its guidelines. Over 100 individuals across the country provided input on the guidelines.
